Boat of the Soul

Boat of the Soul
A vehicle used in Chinese royal funerals together with the Chariot of the Soul and the Tablet of the Soul, the latter being a piece of thick flat wood five times as long as it is wide, on which the name of the deceased was incribed. This custom may date back to a time when the Chinese were a maritime nation and buried their chiefs in boats.
